The cake according to Sanders auctions is a "a classic British fruitcake with cream cheese frosting". It was made by the then-head baker of the Naval Armed Forces, David Avery, and was packaged in wax paper and a doily and held in a silver presentation box. A gift note attached to the cake box read, "With best wishes from / Their Royal Highnesses / The Prince & Princess of Wales." In September 2015, a piece of wedding cake from the 1947 royal wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip was sold for over $750. Also in 2013, a piece of cake from Princess Kate and Prince William's 2011 wedding sold for over $4,000.
